TOP 3 Reasons Kim Davis Should Resign

I want to preface all of this by saying, I am a Christian and I have no issue with Kim Davis’ beliefs at all, even though I do not agree with her. She can believe and feel however she wants. The problem now becomes that she is unwilling to do her job. She wants to stick to her guns and not give out marriage licenses to a homosexual couple, fine, but she can’t have the job she has if that’s the case.

Let’s see if I can come up with an analogy for what’s happening in Kentucky right now. I have worked in technical support for the last few years. Part of my job description is to help people with Windows, Mac and Linux computers. If all of a sudden I decide that for personal reasons, I cannot help solve a Mac issue, because I don’t believe in Apple… well I’d be fired or asked to resign as the job would no longer be for me.

“But Josh, the law changed while she was in office.” Good point. Ok, here is another example:

Should Mrs. Davis resign?

Like laws, technology changes all the time. When I started working in technical support Microsoft Office 2011 was the newest version of Office for Mac. Now, with an Office 365 subscription, Mac users can access Office 2016, and soon will be able to purchase Office 2016 without a subscription. If a customer comes up to me and asks me to help them install Office 2016 on their computer for them, am I allowed to refuse to help them with that, but if they go find Office 2011, I can help them install that? I don’t think so, it doesn’t work like that. A new program changes my Job description, even though the contract I signed when I was hired says nothing about me supporting Office 2016.

Like I said, I don’t have any issue with Mrs. Davis and her beliefs, she is entitled to them, but because of the change in the law, whether she likes it or not, her job description has changed. If she cannot perform her job due to moral objections, that’s fine, but she needs to resign.

I think what makes this whole topic so infuriating to me is that even though I grew up in a very conservative Lutheran church, I was still taught to love your neighbor as yourself. You don’t have to agree with everything that is happening in the world, but why not promote love? In a world where there is so much hate and tragedy all the time, this seems like a very silly thing to be up in flames about. Shouldn’t we be more focused on the violence in the world and ending that, rather than trying to prevent two people from being happy? Martin Sheen's character in The West Wing has a pretty good monologue in response to issues similar to this one.

Top 3 Reasons Kim Davis Should Resign

  1. She isn't doing her job.
  2. She still isn't doing her job.
  3. She went to jail because she wasn't doing her job, and she still isn't doing her job!

Mrs. Davis is now "letting" her deputies do their job, but she is still not doing hers.
